Janome Supplies Required:
-MC7700 with Stitch Calculator
-A Foot
-F2 foot
-Knee lifter
Fabric and Notions Required:
• Silk dupioni, 1/2 yd
• Sheer polyester ribbon in coordinating colour, 1 yd of 1 1/2” wide ribbon
• Rotary cutter and cutting board
• Quilter’s ruler
• All purpose thread in colour to match dupioni
• 40 wt embroidery thread to match ribbon
• 14” pillow form
• Tear Away Stabilizer, 15” (or wider) roll
• Bobbin thread
• Fabric marker
To Make the Pillow:
1. Cut two 14” squares from the silk dupioni for the pillow top and the pillow back. Cut a matching square of stabilizer for the pillow top. Mark the pillow top with a 5” square, centered on the pillow top. Draw a line diagonally, and draw additional lines spaced 1” from the diagonal line. Place the marked square on the stabilizer.

2. Set up the MC7700 for decorative stitching with embroidery thread in the needle and bobbin thread in the bobbin. Attach the F2 foot. Press Mode and select the Play stitch collection. Select Stitch 246. Press Combine, and press M to add Stitch 246 to the memory. Select Decorative Stitches 159+ and select Stitch 168. Press M to add the stitch to the memory. Place the stabilized square of silk dupioni under the foot, and stitch along the marked diagonal line within the 5” square. When reaching the corner, press the Reverse button to lock the stitches.
Inside Information: When sewing decorative stitches, use the Lock button to complete the pattern and lock stitches. Use the Reverse button to lock stitches at any point in the pattern, in this instance stopping at the end of the diagonal line.
3. Continue sewing lines of decorative stitches on each of the marked lines, using the Reverse button to lock the stitches at the end of each line.
4. Position the sheer ribbon along the outside edge of the square, starting with a 3” tail. Fold the ribbon 90° at each corner as shown below. Pin in place.

5. Fold the remaining corner to match, trimming the ribbon ends. Press Clear to remove the combined stitches on the screen, and then press Mode. Select Utility Stitches. Select Stitch 01. Baste in place along each edge using a straight stitch, lengthened to 4.0 mm.
6. Measure the straight edge of the ribbon square. Measure the diagonal corner of the ribbon square. Note these measurements for use with the Stitch Calculator.
7. Press Mode, and select Decorative 159+. Select Stitch 163. Using the Stitch Calculator for reference, sew along the outside edges of the ribbon.

Inside Information:
The Stitch Calculator is so much fun to play with, and very handy for precision stitching. Select Stitch 163. Press the Combine button, and press the Memory button to add the desired number of patterns. For the sample pillow, we used 13 patterns. After the patterns are added to the screen, touch the screen to activate the Stitch Calculator. Compare the measurement on the screen to the side length of the ribbon square. Adjust the number of patterns if necessary. Add a Memory Lockstitch, and sew along each of the sides!
8. Press Clear to remove the memorized patterns on the screen. Stitch 163 is the selected stitch appearing on the screen. Press the Combine button, and add the number of patterns needed for the diagonal corners of the ribbon square. On the sample pillow, we used 6 patterns. Activate the Stitch Calculator, and check the measurement, adding or subtracting patterns for the correct measurement. Add Memory Lockstitch, and sew along each diagonal corner. When the decorative stitches are complete, tear away excess stabilizer, and press the pillow top from the wrong side.
9. Set up the MC7700 for straight stitch, with all-purpose thread and the A foot. Sew the pillow front to the pillow back with a 1/2” seam allowance, leaving a 6” opening on one side for turning. Trim the corners diagonally, and turn the pillow right side out. Insert the pillow form into the pillow, and hand stitch the opening closed. This completes the pillow.
Enjoy!
