Level: Beginner
As an educator for Janome America I am blessed. I travel to many cities and meet lots of wonderful people. This summer I was working the Iowa State Fair and had the pleasure of meeting an amazing young woman named Rebecca, she was 20-years-old and fighting cancer for the third time. She stopped to ask me if I could tell her how to make the t-shirt knit cap that she had been wearing. I drew a “plan” for it but promised her I would make sure that her cap pattern would be made available to the public.
I made the models for this out of a purchased t-shirt knit, but remember a soft broken in t- shirt would be great or even a t-shirt knit sheet. The pattern can be adjusted for any head. Rebecca was going to use some white t-shirts and tye dye them.
Cancer is not just an October event it lasts all year, effects every age group. I am hoping all of you will invest a little time and some fabric and make a few caps to drop off at your local hospital or clinic.
I’d like to thank a few people, of course Rebecca, remember I told you miracles happen! I’d also like to thank another brave young woman named Leah who fought and won! (proof that miracles happen) I have some other loved ones who fought and are my hero’s today, my dear Patty, my Joelin , my cousin Ann. The bravest of them all is my Joyce who while fighting breast cancer helped others thru! These women all under the age of 50 touched and continue to touch my life. With great love and appreciation for their journey’s I dedicate this project.

Janome Supplies Required:
Any sewing machine set for a stretch stitch or serger set to three thread for a stretch stitch
Fabric and Notion Required:
Ball Point Needle for sewing machine
Thread
½ yard knit cotton fabric per cap (an old worn-in t-shirt works best, because it is very soft!)
Cutting instructions:
- Cut 2 -6 ½ inch circles from knit fabric

- Cut one 12 inch (can be varied tomake a cuff if you wish)by 24 inch rectangle (a 12 inch by 12 inch square on the fold)

- Fold rectangle in half long ways and then so you have a 12 inch by 6 inch rectangle. Measure in a ½ inch from cut edge mark and using a straight edge draw a line at an angle so the top of your rectangle measures 11 ½ inches and the bottom measures 12 inches and cut along the line.
Sewing instructions:
Use a ¼ inch seam allowance.
Unfold rectangle and make a seam joining raw edges.
Fold rectangle in half wrong side together matching raw edges. With circles wrong side together match raw edges to circles raw edges and stitch.
Your cap is ready!!!!
