Lace Shaping
To do lace shaping, be sure to use a Cotton French Insertion Lace. This type of lace has a "header" on each side of the lace. A header on lace is similar to a selvage on fabrics. It consists of several strands of woven cotton to finish the edge. When you want to shape lace, you draw the shape you wish to cover with lace first. If it is a curve as in the instructions for this block, you will place the outside header of the lace on the drawn line.
To hold the lace in place, place a pin vertically every 1/2" on the edge of the lace on a lace shaping board. The opposite side of the lace will be loose. Pull out one of the threads in the header with a pin on one end of the lace. Pull gently on the thread and it will pull the curve in place.
As you shape the lace along the drawn shape try to miter or overlap the corners to hold them in place. Press the lace, then gently lift it from the board, pinning to the fabric as you go. |
