Gathering Foot Techniques

Use these techniques for better, more consistent results.

Supplies and Notions

  1. Use the gathering foot for a ruffle. One layer or two layers of fabric may be gathered with this foot.
  2. Beautiful and even puffing can be made by gathering both edges of a fabric strip. Puffing used to frame a pillow top adds interest and texture. You may have a fabric you wouldn't consider due to the print, however when it is puffed the fabric could possibly be used.
  3. When making a double ruffle, fold the fabric in half lengthwise, baste the raw edges together and then gather the two layers as if they were one. For two layers increase the stitch length to 5 and tension to 10 for a very full gather.
