I have trouble with just basic topstiching knit fabric. What's the best stitch and length to prevent stretching as you go? -Cynthia, Placentia, CA
Sewing on knits can be a challenge sometimes. First, I recommend a Janome Blue Tip 75/11. If your machine is equipped with a stretch straight stitch or stitch that looks like a lightening bolt, that would be my first choice. If not, a narrow open zig-zag also works well. Also, if possible reduce the amount of pressure on the presser foot by moving the pressure dial to a lower number.
To prevent the fabric from stretching as you sew, place a layer of water soluble stabilizer between the feed dogs and the fabric.
