Some of you may already be familiar with the good works of Project Linus. The mission of this hardworking, non-profit organization is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade, washable blankets and afghans, lovingly crafted by volunteer "blanketeers."
Janome and Project Linus have teamed up to present National Make a Blanket Day 2003. This fourth annual event is scheduled for February 15, 2003, and will bring together hundreds of Janome dealers and Project Linus chapters nationwide. The goal is to double the number of blankets created and distributed to kids in need of a hug in virtually every part of the United States. Plus, everyone who turns in a new, handmade blanket to participating Janome dealers between February 1 and February 22, 2003 has the chance to win a Janome 6125QC sewing machine.
According to Randy Thomas, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Janome America, Inc., Make A Blanket Day is an excellent program with which the company can showcase its sewing machines while helping a notable non-profit. Since December 1995, Project Linus has distributed more than 560,000 blankets. Thomas hopes Janome can help Project Linus break the 600,000 blanket mark.
Leading up to National Make a Blanket Day, Janome will promote Project Linus and the February event with posters and brochures displayed at area dealerships. Participating dealers will conduct preview blanket-making workshops in January with Project Linus representatives. For the February 15 event, Janome dealers will conduct workshops and serve as drop-off points for blankets.
Blanketeers will receive a raffle ticket for every finished blanket turned in to a participating Janome dealer. At the conclusion of the promotion, each participating dealer will draw a name from their collected raffle tickets, and that winner will receive a new Quilter's Companion 6125QC. This is not a national-only drawing; there'll be a winner from each and every participating dealer! The more blankets turned in, the more tickets received, and the better your chances of winning. Community involvement is vital to the success of this event, and we hope as many of our talented Janome sewing enthusiasts as possible will go to their local dealers and help us make blankets for the kids.
