Goodletsville Police And Fire Departments Help Sew Blankets

19 March, 2004

The fire and police departments of Goodletsville, TN have traditionally helped distribute Project Linus blankets. This year, they helped sew them as well. At the suggestion of the City Manager, the men in uniform sat down in front of Janome sewing machines for the first time at Rivergate Sewing Center.

"There were 3 or 4 police cars here," said instructor Karen Rouse (pictured at right), "as different officers took turns sewing."

The fire department truck had to leave three times to respond to emergency calls but came back so the men could finish their blankets.

"Don't let anybody touch this quilt," said one fire fighter as he left for a call, "I want to be the one to finish it."

By the end of the day, Rivergate Sewing Center had collected 283 blankets for Project Linus. Thirty of those were given to the Police and Fire Departments for distribution.
