Janome's SewPrecise Sewing Machine: Electronic Precision At A Great Price

22 August, 2006

MAHWAH, N.J. - The most important feature on any sewing machine is the quality of its stitching. This is where many economy models fail to deliver. The money saved isn't worth the hours of frustration and the constant use of the seam ripper.

In light of this, Janome has introduced the SewPrecise electronic sewing machine. The machine is designed to deliver excellent stitch quality and convenient features, all at an economy price. The SewPrecise is ideal for home dec, quilting, garments and crafts. It offers 32 stitches, including a one-step automatic buttonhole and 16 decorative stitches.

"When it comes right down to it, the most important feature on a sewing machine is a reliable stitch," says Karen Vogel, Merchandise Manager at Janome America. "The SewPrecise is appealing because it gives you more than the basics, including our Superior Feed System. Anyone using it is going to have great results."

The machine displays the current stitch as well as its width and length on an LCD screen. There's never any confusion about which settings have been selected. Besides English, the screen can be set to display five other languages. There’s a top, drop-in bobbin, which is the easiest to change and helps form the most precise stitches. And, the SewPrecise comes with an easy needle threader -- simply press down on the lever and lay the thread across the threading hook.

One of the places where electronics make the biggest difference is in the Speed Control, which gives the user a choice of three different speed ranges. The slowest is useful for projects requiring stitch-by-stitch precision. The fastest range speeds up projects with long seams, such as quilts.

SewPrecise has a storage box that slides off to reveal a generous free arm for sewing in small or tight areas, like cuffs and sleeves. Two more features not commonly found on economy-priced machines are the Buttonhole Stitch Balance Adjustment and the Stretch Stitch Balance Adjustment. In both cases these allow the user to fine-tune the density of the stitches. The SewPrecise uses standard snap-on feet, comes with an extra spool pin for multi thread work, and is easily transported by its sturdy carrying handle.
