I am new to quilting and I am getting ready to quilt the top, I wanted to Stich in the Ditch; however I can't understand the book.
I changed the foot to the Stich in the Dich foot.
Do I lower the feed dogs?
Is the thread tension thing on the top of the machine? If so I moved it to 2.5 and the thread is getting to be like little dots.
How do I make the thread lengths longer?
Am I supposed to be in Free Motions mode?
So confused!
Help!

No, you don't lower the feed dogs. What machine do you have? If you have the 6600, Horizon 7700 or the 12000, I suggest you get the ditch even feed/flex foot as it will walk the fabrics together. If not then the ditch foot will work. The foot pressure may need to be slacked a bit, but I can't tell you where as I don't know the machine you are using.
You may need to move your needle over a bit - mine needed a couple of notches to the right to hit the ditch dead on. You'll need to play with that to know where the exact ditch is on your machine.

Just a little hint. You can use either your even feed or walking foot and do what I call a wobble stitch.
You set your stretch stitch (it is in the utility stitches) which looks like a line that is wiggly and set it to 0.5W 2.5 L. try stitching in the ditch and if you go off the seam it does not show. I quilted a whole quilt using that stitch in the ditch and you can not even see it.
The hint came from a book by Betty cotton with her Cotton Theory Quilting.

Yes I am but not with the single hole setting. Use your regular setting.
I am also looking up to answer your question you posted in the other area about the Hand Look Quilt Stitch. I have the setting somewhere and I will get back to you.

I have a 11000SE and I too had to move my needle a few notches to the right, as it was sewing just to the left of the ditch...
