I walked into my local dealer this morning to buy some thread and some needles. My dealer informed me that on my 6600P,that I should never use Schmetz needles on my machine or else I could cause damage to it.Most of the time I use Janome brand but if I am in a pinch I will use Schmetz because they have never caused me any trouble, should I throw away my Schmetz needles?

Mandy I would not throw them out, just use them up. Janome needles are made by Organ and you can purchase Organ needles on line. I purchased 100 for $18.00. The 90/14 are equal to the Janome Red tip 90/14. I do love the Red Tip for my Janome 11,000 but I use the Organ in both my 11,000 and my Horizon, and my Janome 634D serger and Singer 5 thread Professional.

Mandy,

The Schmetz needles will work just fine in your 6600. Our machine technician always puts a new 14 or 90 Schmetz System needle into every machine he services when he is working with them. The only time he uses something different is if the machine calls for it. Example: The CoverPro requires a special needle EL or something added to the name - it is a bit longer I think. Some sergers also need those special needles but NOT our sewing machines.

Thanks Cheryl and MOM for you replies. I was told that the shaft of these needle brands were different and that the Schmetz needles could damage my bobbincase. That is kind of funny, I have had the machine for exactly two years and have used the Schmetz needles a lot, still, my bobbincase still looks pretty nice!

My dealer sold both Janome and Schmitz needles to use in our machines.

I think this particular dealer was just pushing sales on the Janomes..cannot blame her though.
