Will we be able to install the 12000 update at home or do we have to have our machine at our dealer to have it done?

There is already an update for the 12000 (and also one for the useless Horizon Link). I very carefully downloaded the 12000 update onto a 2 GB stick and followed the instructions EXACTLY to put onto the machine. Absolutely nothing happened!! I am going to take my machine and the downloaded to the dealer to see if they have any better luck.

Is the update in question the second update? I am confused.

The update has to be loaded onto a clean USB stitck and then if you don't want your dealer to do it you can do it at home, there are two parts and the machine one needs specific buttons held which your dealer can tell you. The HorizonLink, I respectfully disagree with another post, is a wonderful tool but scary as I can purchase a design on the internet and be stitching it out in less than a minute (which I have done too many times already!) They really improved the stitch creator and it is SO much easier to use now

Do you mean they improved the stitch creator with the latest update that is available at the dealers?

I did use a clean USB stick and I held down the two buttons on the machine. I did everything exactly according to the instructions and still nothing happened.

Jacquie,

Did you get the second update? My dealer doesn't even know what I know about it, but in her defence she has 2 stores and 4 machine dealerships. She does very well considering how busy she is - she needs a life to like the rest of us that is outside her business.

I'm being impatient and just don't want to wait until the thing is available on the web. I know I'm nuts, but what else is new.

Cheryl: I checked with my dealer yesterday and they did not know either. This is going to be interesting. I do not know why it is going to the dealer first. We always got them the same time they did if it was an update. This is supposed to be a freebie so I do not know why they just dont post it..

My thought exactly. Just post it on the Janome site with good instructions and let us go to it. Jacquie has it on her USB and is still having difficulty so, having the dealer do the transfer isn't the be all end all either. These machines are awkward to take in to the dealer and move more than is absolutely necessary. I think I can do as well as the dealer at installing this stuff anyway (aren't I an arrogant witch).

I guess I should be pleased that my screen didn't go black when I tried to do the upload. Liz (Janome rep.) warned us all at the 12000 workshop held at Sawyers in Victoria BC., that if we did it wrong it was possible to screw up the machine and that it would have to be shipped to Janome for fixing. This is why I followed the instructions to the letter. As I have no idea what the update is supposed to accomplish, I don't know what I am missing.

I checked again for the second update on the website but there is only the first one posted.

Jacquie, the first update is posted on Janome Global. If you have another clean USB, why don't you try to download it from there and try again. When you do the upgrade on the machine and hold the 2 buttons, your screen will change from white to blue or something like that and then a green bar moves across the screen. Go make tea while it is doing that because it seems to take forever when you watch it update. However, if you've decided to take it in, then it should be done correctly. If the boxes were opened and we checked them in the store before taking them home, updates could be done for us immediately when we buy. The only exception to that is for folks that buy before the updates are done. You didn't so your dealer should have helped with that when you were in for your lesson.

You see MOM, I can ramble too.

Question, I went yesterday and had my dealer do the update to my machine. Wish I had the confidence to do it myself but I do not. But am I reading right, there is an update to the Horizon Link? Now Horizon Link is on my PC so how do I get that update? I've been on vacation so have been out of the loop since the end of May.

Thanks,

Elaine:

The update they are talking about is the one we did in December. Your machine has the update already. You are up to date with everything.

Cheryl, the screen did not go blue so I did not have the opportunity to see the green bar. The directions say to hold the two buttons until the screen turns blue (it didn't) but it doesn't say to release them and wait for the green bar. Did you release the buttons after the screen turned blue? I might have another go. I got the update from the janome website which posts all the updates etc. I would be nice if these were posted in some sort of order. By machine model # for instance. I had to go hunting.

Mom, It is but one has to scroll through all the updates for all the various machines which is a nuisance.

Jacquie, Check your email. I'm sending you some very explicit instructions that I got from another forum and they may help you so that you don't have to take "Big Girl" out to the dealers.
