I am a new owner of a MC11000. I bought a design off the internet and it came in a zipped file. I can unzip or open the file, but it does not have the emb or embf file. I copied and pasted to USB stick, but my 11000 does not read it. The USB stick is already formatted to embf. I am really frustrated. The file when opened displays the jef designs and the read me file. There are 25 designs on the pack. If anyone can help me with this problem I would be very grateful. Thank you. CJ

After you download your design you have to unzip the file and place it in a folder on your computer, then you can either open it in your software program, if no software program just drag and drop it into your embf folder on the stick. Then your machine should read it. What size is your USB stick? also be sure it will fit in the machines hoop as well. If it is too big it will not read it.

You wont receive an EMB or EMBF file with any designn, those are the names of the embroidery folders that Janome machines place on your external device. A compact flash card or a USB stick, so to get a design into the correct folder here are the instructions.
1; insert your usb stick into your computer.
2 go to my computer (XP) or Computer ( win 7 start menu) when that opens ALL your drives including your USB will be listed.
3; identify your USB flash drive, right mouse click on it and tell it Open. If your machine has correctly formatted it you should have an ORD and an EMB folder showing. double click on the EMB folder to open it, and inside will be a subfolder EMBF
4; open the EMBF folder, that's where you put your JEF designs.
5; now diminish that screen to your bottom task bar, DONT CLOSE IT.
6; go and open the folder with your unzipped designs in. take careful note of their sizes, they must not be wider or taller than 200 mm in order to fit your 200x200 mm hoop, or if you intend using the 140 x 200 mm hoop, must not be wider than 140 mm. Very often digitisers are unaware of the orientation of their target stitch formats and save a landscape design in the wrong orientation. So the width of what seems ok exceeds the hoops width while the height is well within the limit, so the design needs rotating.
7 find one that fits your hoop dimensions, right click on it and select copy, no open the USB EMBF folder you diminished to the task bar, and right mose click into the open subfolder, EMBF, and select paste. your design is now pasted into the correct folder. close the window.
8. use the 'safely remove hardware' icon that sits hidden on your task bar, and when that opens choose your USB drive you'll get a message safe to remove, or windows is still writing data please wait. when it says ok remove the USB, take it to your 11000, insert it, wait for the machine to read it, go into embroidery mode, select your external device, and you should see your design appear.
Now there some things that will cause your machine not to read a design, they are as follows, stitch count is too high, 100000 is the absolute max number of stitches it will read. It exceeds the colour changes limit of 75, and there are designs that exceed that number, I've stitched them. The design hasn't been centred to its target hoop, quite common. Design wasn't rotated to fit a vertical orientation hoop, the 140 x 200mm hoop. The digitiser hadn't realised the Macro hoop was an overlap hoop so created a design that wasn't split. a single stray stitch has fallen outside the sewing field. Don't overload the usb stick, one or two designs max.
Hope this helps.

Thank you Mom. I did place it in document program. I don't know what size the USB stick is, but I bought it at the Janome dealer and he formatted it for me, so it should be the right size. I am not sure I know what you mean to drag and drop it into the embf folder.
Thank you.

You can put your mouse on it and just drag it to the place where your stick is or you can on the design and you should have the option to sent it to and you can send it to the USB stick then put the stick in your machine. Be sure if you do that to place it in the EMBf folder. If you got it from your dealer it should be the right size, however what size is the design itself?

MOM, I think it is best to copy and paste, rather than drag designs. I believe that Digimad has had an experience, or, know of someone who had designs compromised when the drag/drop method was used.
Redwin, Your USB sticks or Compact Flash cards should be no larger than 2GB and you can purchase them from a computer shop or for small ones: memorysuppliers.com - here is the link to cards and you can find the USB's there too once you go to the site.

Thank you all for your help. I struggled yesterday and didn't get it, but this morning I tried just one design, and I got it on the USB stick. I guess I was trying to put too many designs on the stick at once. Thank you so much. I see what you meant by the size of the design. Some of them are pretty large. I don't know what size the USB is or how many designs it will hold. Thank you again for your help. I never would have been able to figure it out myself - that is for sure.

The 11,0000 is a wonderful machine. If you put too many designs on any USb stick the machine will struggle to read them. A good rule of thumb is only put on the device what you are using at the time. Also the 11,000 uses a 2gb flash drive.
