Hello, I have been offered Customizer 10000 software which is genuine but when I asked if it had the security dongle I was told it didnt have one, that I just needed to download from the cd to my computer. Does this seem right, I thought they had to have a dongle to stop them being pirated. Kind regards, Doris

Customizer does not run with a dongle. There is a CD that does the original installation. If you are being charged$$ for the program you might not want to consider purchasing it. It is an older program and there are many other new ones out there. Customizer is no longer an up to date program. If you are going to pay$$ why not go to a local Janome dealer and see what the Digitizer,JR would cost you.

Also deedee what machine are you using.

Hello, I have the 10000 ,2 X 300e and a 350e, I use the latest Embird for my digitising, etc, I only wanted the Customer 10000 to link the 10000 to a pc as I dont have the easy transfer software.
If it doesnt come with a dongle it will be worth me getting it for a just a few £s purely for the transfer bit. Thankyou for your help. kind regards Doris

DeeDee,

Customizer does not use a dongle. If you get the program, be sure to do the update from the software updates on the Janome Global website. There should be a link to it on this site. From what you are describing it sounds like this will be a good fit for the machines you are using.

Doris whats your operating system on your PC, coz if its XP service pack 3 the direct transfer wont work. It only works on older operating systems like 98, 2000 and XP pre SP3. Any one with a MC10k machine and the XP SP3 update to windows has to use compact Flash cards and ATA adaptor. If you have Vista or windows 7, the direct link is dead in the water.

Thank you for your replies. I have an old windows 98se pc that I was going to use, my PC and laptop are windows 7 so I thought they would be too up to date . I wanted to update the mc10000 as it was 'brand new' although 12 years old when I bought it before Christmas and there is an update on the Janome site . It sews and embroiders like a dream and was a real bargain. I do use cf cards as I do in my other machines but the extra facility would be useful.
Best wishes Doris

I think you would be better off spending your money on the upgrade to make it into a virtual 10001. It gives you lots of extra features.

I just traded in my 10001 on a 12000 but remember that when I bought the upgrade, I was thrilled with all the stuff it added. I don't remember them all and maybe some other forum will jump in here. Some features are extra built-in designs, some for the free arm and giga hoops. I enabled me to copy/duplicate designs in the edit mode. This was great if you want to bring in a design(s) into the hoop and duplicate and scatter around. I used this feature whenever I spilled something (usually bleach) on a garment and wanted to hide my foolishness. It also enabled you to arc lettering up or down. I think it also increased the stitches allowed to 64000. Not sure about this one as is may have been in the last update. Anyway, check to make sure that you have all the free updates. You can do this by looking at the screen when you switch on the machine as it will give you the version on the machine. Then visit your dealer.

Doris, it turns your AF hoop into a 110mm by 126 mm hoop, may not sound much but it made a colosall difference. You get a new folder system, 11 emb folders and 11 ORD folders for the compact flash card only. It gives you the ability combined with Customisr to use a Giga Hoop, not such a plus as it first appeared, as Jacquie has said, it doubled the stitch limit from 32000 to 64000. offered improved editting in the machine, a more stable direct pc link up, but be warned dont attempt to load designs into the built in memory, its very small. New sewing stitches, extra embroidery designs, it doesn't make it into a full 10001 as that machine had sensors the 10k lacks. But in all other respects it did make it comparable.
The MC10k is a robust machine, not given to the tempremental behaviour of most computerised machines that were of its era. Its the plain Jane now, but for all that, it's still the best combi sewing/embroidery machine for stability, stitch quality etc that came out of the Janome stable until the 12000.

As for the direct link most of us binnd that PDQ, it was an absolute pain, the built in mmory would quickly dissapear, thn having to have the umbilical cord betwen machine and PC meant available space for sewing was diminished. You will find you need the Plexiglass extension table, as without it the large hoop will soon start to bounce as the machine bed isnt perfectly flat in front of the machine. A lesson Janome learnt as demonstrated in the 11000 and the 12000 both machines have a flat bed not the downward slope of the 10000. You can get the extension table from a dealer but you have to make sure they order the Giga xtension table. that taks up 2square feet, then your machine and thn your PC. That's a lot of counter top room, so most folks decided it was too much and opted for the ease of using a compact Flash card. No memory loss, no having your machine next to your PC, and no awkward umbilical cord.

Hello, thank you all so much. You have made my mind up, I will forget the pc link and carry on with cf cards. I have loads of them because of the other machines anyway. I will get the 10001 update as you say just to get the 110X126 size would be really good as most of my designs fall within that size or the large hoop. I havent used my giga hoop at all because I embroider baby and childrens clothing and never seem to need that size, hopefully I will one day though.
I got the mc10000 to replace a very old sewing machine . It was unpacked, repacked and put away for for years by the lady it was bought for who was blinded by the technology. It came at such a bargain price and having the embroidery facility plus the extra hoops that are compatible with my other machines I couldnt resist, and as you say it sews and embroiders beautifully and so quiet too .
Thanks again, best wishes,
Doris
