Wynasew, I used to recomend maximum ram possible, dedicated video cards with their own memory ram, fast processors, but I myself have grown tired of home desk tops having gone through 5 of them since 2003. I purchased a workstation with Intels xeon 3530 processors and a Nividia Quattro 4000 plus adaptor with 2gb of its own memory ram, to get a 24gb ram. Its an expensive route, but as my last Desktop was an off the shelf customised machine running XP pro 32 bit, and a motherboard that didnt allow for extra RAM or the new RAM now available, which cost triple that of my previous machine, the 4 gb which a 32 bit machine allows ,was useless for Ram hungry applications.
I'm not content to run a program below its optimal perfomance level, and for any digitising software regardless of manufacturer, the more available RAM, not actual installed ram, but whats left after the OS, background processes, antivirus and malware apps have taken their bite of the ram, the better digitising software will perform. I looked at the new Apple machines, lovely looking, but the specs were actually lower than what I was replacing as inadequate for my needs. So I bit the bullet, entered my own austerity program and saved hard for 2 years to get a workstation. The components are far more robust than those used in home PCs, the performance is better as is the rliability, it came with a 3 year onsite warranty, all the components are under full no cost rplacement warranty for 3 years, so the extra cost was to me well worth it.
I will never again purchase a domestic computer, nor do I understand those who stick doggedly to a 32 bit system when their software needs so much more ram than the 3.5 gb a 32bit system can use.
I now run the new MBX software, a huge program, and the the performance it gives me is brilliant. I would never have that from a 32 bit system, having the video card I have gives me almost perfection, I say almost as I'd love the 3D display the one 2 levels up would afford me, but the software I'd need, the more powerful processors, the projector, or glasss plus two 3d enabled monitors would be astronomical. But can you imagine having your design floating in mid air in front of you. Sigh, it must remain a daydream
