Hello,
My friend who owns a new JanomeDC2007LE is moving in a couple weeks to South Africa (CapeTown). She is concerned as to whether she will be able to use the machine there and will she be able to get it serviced. Does anyone know anything about South Africa? Would it be better to wait and buy another machine there? She will be there for at least 3 years and is an avid sewer.
thanks

Hi, SuzieMouse!
I'm not familiar with the "Janome accessibility" in S. Africa. I would check first at this website and see if there is any (under site map, perhaps?) listing for dealers in that country/area.
If that doesn't help, then she needs to check with her PRESENT dealer and he can probably find out for her. Then she'll be able to make a good decision for her next 3 yrs. there.

Dear Suzie mouse,
There should not be any problem at all, to use your Janome in South Africa!
There are plenty of professional suppliers and they also do repairs.
You may though have to change the plug to your cable, because one often finds 3 pin plugs, for which one can buy adapters before moving out there, most likely in a camping shop.
I used to live there.
I hope this information will help you along.

I have been given a Janome in the US to take to Kenya for use mending clothes at an orphanage. Our US power is 110 volts. Kenyas is 220 volts. What strength (wattage?) of step-down transformer do I need? Will also need a plug adaptor, but that should be easy enough.

Hi Susie Mouse,
You may find that janome is sold under a different name in South Africa. I live in Spain and Janome is sold under the Alfa logo, something to do with spanish laws, but the serial plates and start up all bear the janome logos, same with purchasing genuine accessories. It may be worth checking if this is also the case, in which case she will have no problems with servicing the machine.

Go to the Janome Global site: There is an Africa listed there. Check that out - it may be what yo are looking for.

Is that the Mully Children's Family? If so, our daughter was there for 8 months. We sent some sewing equipment to them for their school. They were training young people with various skills so they'd be able to earn a living.

This is what I found for Africa on the Global Site:
http://www.janome.co.jp/e/e_links/africa.html
She will probably need a power converter to use the machine. I would advise her to have it serviced and cleaned before she goes and it may need nothing done except that little oil spot under the bobbin, every 10 hours of sewing. If you keep the machine clean it will sew be OK for a long time. I only get mine serviced every 2 or 3 years, unless something goes wrong and I need to have it fixed for some other reason. The technician will clean it when he has them opened up.
