Hi All,

What happens to a design when you use both Polyester and Rayon thread in the same design. I am doing the Infinity Quilt and to get the blends I want, I may have to use both kinds of thread. Will it affect the quilt in any way. Digimad, you probably know this right off the top of your head.

Hello Fellow Canuck, I have used a mixture of threads - Rayon, Polyester and even metallic with good results. The main difference is durability. Rayon, which has more sheen, is not as durable and cannot be bleached. It is also not too crazy about UV rays. As most laundry detergents contain a certain amount of bleach, you must take this into consideration. However, if you are making something which will not be tossed into the laundry like sportswear or kid's clothes, the combination of different threads will be quite smashing. Go for it, I think you will be thrilled with the outcome.

Cheryl forgive me this please flower, you get PoRa (poorer)
Oops, blame my age, as long as you don't go mad with the colours and hang the quilt in strong bright sunshine or scrub it in a tub of detergent, no one will know. Rayon bleaches in the light, it loses it's colour if laundered, it can rot as well, but the colours and gloss are lovely. Poly is strong, durable colours, is impervious to light, contrary to what many folks believe, it does not melt when ironed, both Rayon and Poly are synthetic threads, Rayon is viscose and poly is spun polyester, not plastic which I have read on various groups including this one. If you have colours you like in your stash, and as long as you aren't mixing natural fibre threads with synthetics, ( durability issues) mix and match flower.

Thanks Jacquie and Maggie,

I thought that it wouldn't really matter, but be a personal taste. Just thought I'd throw that out to the forum before I started this quilt that could put me in the poor house. I know I'll love it when it is finished. If I get industrious, I may post a picture or two of some of the squares as I'm working along. Maggie you gave me some hints on how to do it and I think I have a cousin, here in town that may be able to help. How can I go about inviting you to look when this happens.

I could ramble on and on so I will sign off for now and go and eat cheese cake with my grandchildren in the neighbourhood.
