I need to purchase some bobbins to fit my Janome Jem Silver machine. I had originally purchased metal classic 15 bobbins that work, but I read that I should not be using metal bobbins. So, I went out and purchased generic plastic classic 15 bobbins and I can't use them because the center is too large (just a smidge loose) for them to work properly. I cannot wind the bobbins on them. So, I drove 20 miles to the nearest Janome dealer and they were so rude that out of principle I refused to give them any business and left empty handed.
What am I missing? Is there something special about the OEM Janome bobbins? Should classic 15 plastic bobbins work?
Thanks for any help you can offer!

I am in the U.S. and got mine from Ken's Sewing Center. He has free shipping. You can also check out All Brands, but I had to pay for shipping. Luckly, I have a Janome Dealer close to me, but I wanted the Cherry Blossom Bobbins, they are pink and Ken's had them cheaper than my dealer by $5 with free shipping. Hope this helps.

I ordered some from Ken's. Thanks for the tip! We'll see if those work better than the generic plastic ones I was using.

Speaking of bobbins, I'd be curious to hear how others store and separate their bobbins. I finally got over the fear of letting a bobbin run to empty, so I'm using up all of those embroidery thread bobbins that are close to empty.
I have one of those circular silicone holders for embroidery bobbins, and another for "regular" sewing.
I bought a big box of pre-wound bobbins, and like that they hold so much more thread than home-wound ones. I've found they have so much that I sometimes need to remove some so the bobbin turns freely in the case.
Anyone ever try adjusting the bobbin winder stopper to get a little more thread on the bobbin? I don't plan to, unless someone else has done it without disastrous results. I can think of many more reasons not to do something that isn't mentioned in my manual than to go out on a limb!

i used pre-wounds with my 10001 and now with my new 12000. Never have any problems with them and they sure save a lot of mucking about.

Steve,
When I took my machine in for the last update I asked him to adjust the bobbin winder because the bobbins were only filling 2/3 of the way full....a real drag. I was getting my Bernina and winding my bobbins on it for the 12,000. Anyway, all it took was a little adjustment by the technician and it was better.
I too have two circular bobbin holders in different colors, I was using one for regular thread and one for embroidery thread, then I could not remember which was which, that is when I ordered the Pink Cherry Blossom Bobbins from Ken's. I am going to put all my regular sewing threads on those.
Devilcat,
I have used some prewounds for regualar sewing too in the past.

Sewingbunny, I use the prewounds for embroidery and fill bobbins for regular sewing so that matching thread is used for seams etc.

The bobbins for Janome are Class 15. I also treated myself to several packs of the Cherry Blossom bobbins, so that I knew which were embroidery bobbins. Just a hint....if you order them from Amazon.com, they are from Ken's, but are a couple of dollars cheaper than Ken's website.
