Hi,
I just got a refurb Janome 11577. I had a bit of a hard time getting it set right, but now it does just fine. I have the little red lever on the side of the plate for doing rolled hems, but how do I use it for rolled hems? It does not move. I lift up the foot, to relieve pressure, as when threading, but nothing. Is there something else I need to do ? BTW, I used to own 2 white Speedylocks, that I was happy with and finally killed. I was told by my mother in law that Janomes are a very good machine.
I do like it so far. The only thing I do miss, is that the Speedylocks clicked when you got the thread into the tensioner correctly. I did not note that on the Janome, which was why I had such a hard time. I bought my machine on ebay and the first one had a bad tensioner, but the replacement they sent runs perfectl - after I figured out how to get it threaded right and properly tensioned!
There is a video on this website. Then check your manual for the settings of the tension on the needles and loopers on your serger. Then practice on the fabric you want to rolled hem.
Hi, thanks for your input. However, it is how to get the machine to do it that is the problem. The Speedy lock required changing out the foot. The Janome has a red tab that is supposed to switch (from what the book says) from S to R for rolled hem. I tried pushing it in, moving it forward, etc, nothing. Does the knob on the right, that turns allow for the changing of the red button setting to R for rolled hem. I am unsure of the setup protocol.
