I have a brand new 1200D serger. I set it up today to try it out (stitch #1) per the manual, double checked that it is threaded properly, the presser foot is down per instruction, its plugged in, turned on but when I step on the foot pedal the motor runs but the machine does not engage and begin to stitch.
It does form a stitch by hand turning the wheel, in fact I had to hand turn a chain long enough so that I could remove my test fabric.
It seems to me as if the that one particular serger is defective. This does not happen often. If you have that foot down and it is not chaining like it should, you need to get it either replaced or repaired.

Janome sergers are wonderful and I am sure you will get the problem solved. The 1200D is a wonderful serger, but it is a machine that was made in a factory full of humans .But you can bet your bottom dollar that their quality control is top notch .This particular serger was a rare occurrance!
