Start with some double knit and make a simple shirt. even make top long enough for a long knit dress.
Around the sleeves and collar, I put a piece of lace in back and serge over it.

I've had my CP1000 for a year and couldn't live without it now. While it's good to have a thread here, there is also another group for CP's with lots of great info, specially if you can find the time to read all the pages......I did say it would take time!!! LOL
http://sewing.patternreview.co...sses/board.pl?t=13608
Lots of great info on the first few pages as it's been moved there to make it easier for new CP owners.
The attachments are very useful, specially the binders for doing Tshirt necklines etc.

I could not have made my kids thier christmas PJs without it. I had my 4, 3 for neices and nephew adn then for our 4 extras (we collect kids)
I did all the sewing on my 634D and the coverpro. Got the pants done in less then 20 mins and the tops in about the same time. Awesome awesome awesome!

I love my CPro! Originally I bought it for making the nice twin-needle-seams on Tees or Denim. But in the meantime I use it many times for basting with the chain stitch when I'm constructing pants. In case it doesn't fit - just pull the one tread and unravel the seam. If it fits the first time, OK, then I stitch over that seam a second time with the MC6600P, done anyhow always double-seams on pants.
Cheers

I just got the CP1000 and am having problems adjusting it--I'm getting all kinds of skipped stitches. Am trying to have stitching around a neckline straddling the seam line--does that make sense? Have new needles on the machine, lightened the presser foot pressure and have tried adjusting tensions and re-threading. Still lots and lots of skipped stitches. What am I doing wrong?? I have no dealer locally, so going to the dealer for help is not an option.
Thanks!

I recently bought the Janome 1000CP. Has anyone tried using the Belt loop attachment (for 1200D) on this machine?
Also any new books out there with more detail on decorative/embellishment ideas for this cover Stitch/chain stitch machine?

I am having the same problem especially over seams. I've had it. I'm ready to throw it in street. Tried a babylock coverstitch machine at a store and it's worlds better!

Do you have skipped stitch problems over seams. I do. Can't stand this machine.

I have this machine and had some skipped stitches. I found it's very important to use the correct spool holder location for the thread and to make sure it's threaded through the correct tensioners.
Hope this helps.

Make sure you are using the right kind of needle, EL x 705, and NOT regular sewing machine needles.

Which CoverPro 1000 do you have? I have the first one that came out but there is a newer model introduced about a year ago. I'm waiting for my dealer to get that one in but won't until she sells the floor model. If it works better, mine will be sold or given to someone and I'll get the new one. The Babylock is so much more expensive but it may be worth the extra cost if it sews much better.

This machine 1000cp AND the Janome Mylock 204D STINK!! I have a Bernina 1200 and used to have a Bernina Serger until it broke on me after 18 years of faithful service. My friend talked me into a Janome because I really didn't have the extra to get a Bernina....HUGE mistake. I would love to throw both of these in the street and run them over numerous times with my car!!! Skipped stitches on the 1000cp like you wouldn't believe....your sewing along thinking it looks beautiful then turn it over....what a mess!!! took it back for adjustment....same crap!!! The 204D...oh please! I make Leotards for gymnastics....It cannot handle three layers of lycra fabric....unbelievable....the Bernina....jeans, fleece...sewed like a dream....I'm thinking of turning in my 204D to pay for the repairs on my Bernina Serger.....how ridiculous....I am sooooo disappointed in the quality of these machines. I will NEVER buy another one......

I feel so conflicted about my Coverpro - after reading all of your posts, I can't believe we are all talking about the same machine! I have had nothing but problems with it since buying it 2 years ago - I'm tired of my dealer inferring that I don't know how to use a serger - I've done professional alterations for 10 years, and have no problems with 5 other machines that I run. Truthfully, I don't know what to do about it - I couldn't sell it, because the demonstation of the machine would not go well!! I have done everything including changing the pressure on the feed dog, made sure that I'm using the correct needles, hand wheeling over seams , trying different threads. I'm SO done!! I just wish someone had some suggestions for me....

Thank heavens I'm not the only one! I have the Coverpro 1000 and I've had nothing but problems with it as well. Skipping stitches...sheering thread...if I weren't bald already I would be!
I do ALOT of lycra sewing...hence the name. Swimsuits, wrestling and cycling gear and need a machine that does a good coverlock with GREAT stretch.
I stitch overtop of elastic at neck edges and armholes, waistbands etc and trying to get a reliable coverstitch without skipping is a nightmare. I've tried heavier duty needles that I've gotten from my supplier...used wooly nylon in ALL my threads and even lowered my tension to next to nothing to get it to stretch properly and still no luck. I too am ready to pitch this thing. I'm hesitant about getting another machine a) due to cost obviously and b) I'm a Janome poster boy.
I have I couldn't tell you how many Janome machines and up till now...I've loved them to pieces.
I really don't want to make the jump to an industrial machine as I don't have sufficient call for one and they are QUITE costly...yet...I need a coverlock that is reliable! This one is just driving me squirrelly.
Suggestions?

I have had the CP 1000 for about 2 years and it's a piece of junk. Everything you have all said, skipped stiches etc. etc. I hardly use it because of the time and frustration involved in ripping out lousy stitching. I have 2 industrials, a janome memory craft (love this) a husky serger and an old singer serger.. I am not new to sewing and have never had such a bad machine. I hope to sell it and get something else. But really.. I am so disappointed in Janome. Clearly, they went the el cheapo route on this design.
