I just picked my machine up from the dealer where I had its yearly service done. I'm not too happy that it took 3 weeks instead of the usual 3 days it usually takes. I really am happy with my machine and Janome products in general. Having said that my zigzag stitch on this machine is terrible. I point out when I take it in that when doing a zigzag stitch it tends to form a "channel " or "ridge" down the center of the stitching. This last time I even brought in a sample to show them what I meant. The technician gave me a sample to show the zigzag stitch was now sewing correctly. Today I turned on the machine and sure enough there that darn channel was again. I have tried messing with the tension and stitch /length but I still can't get a nice zigzag stitch. I hate having to drag out my old Janome machine for zigzaging. I tried calling the dealer but was told it could be 3 more weeks to reservice the machine. Does anyone have this problem or a solution????????????
Thanks Linda

Is this zig zag on the edge of the fabric? If so, there is a special foot with a little wire which will prevent this happening. If in the middle of the fabric, check your fabric. If it is really soft and thin, a stabilizer underneath may help. If it is a fabric with some weight and density, this indicates that the tensions are out of balance with each other and creating a channel/ridge. I don't like messing with the bottom tension so would try dropping the top tension. Do this on a scrap of fabric by increments and see what difference it makes.

If you end up having to take it in again. Do not rely on the sample the dealer waves at you. Take in the fabric you are having trouble with and try it yourself before you leave the shop.

When sewing a zig zag, the fabric will tunnel if it's not strong enough to over come the tension of the thread (upper) so if your machine doesn't automatically adjust the tension, start by stitching with a 2 or 3 setting on tension and also, it will tunnel if you're sewing on one layer and it's not stabilized, by nature a zig zag stithc will pull the sides in .
