I bought a Janome 8077 (computerized) from Hancock Fabrics a month or so ago. It has worked beautifully UNTIL I tried to make a buttonhole. I have the manual. I followed the instructions. Placed the "R" foot on. Inserted the button in the holder at the back. Set the dial on 16 (square buttonhole). Inserted the needle, dropped the buttonhole foot and pressed the foot pedal. Stitched long bartack stitches then stitched the left side of the buttonhol (going backwards). There is an "L" shape showing on the digital display. It reaches the end of the button hole and starts the bartack stitches then beeps and stops. It shows a message of 6L in the digital display and will not run, change features, or anything. I have to turn the machine completely off, then turn it on again in order to get the machine to change dial numbers. I've worked on this for 3 days. Does anyone know what that error message (6L) means? It's not in the manual. Can someone please help????

Hi there, in my Janome instruction book, the code "bL" stands for button lever. It means that you started the buttonhole without lowering the "buttonhole lever". Before starting any buttonholes, the lever has to be lowered. In your instruction bk it should show this part on the page of buttonhole or in the front where it shows the parts. It sort of looks like a back stop that you pull down. On my machine it's black and up toward the back left of the bar that holds your presser feet. If your machine has the automatic needle threader that you pull down, it's behind this part. I hope this helps.

Thank you. This also helped me. I had just about given up. I bought a computer sewing machine about a year ago as a treat to me. Mostly I still use my trusty machine, which I love and just goes on an on, however needing to finish of a jacket I made for my sister (who is a quilter and does exquisite work) I wanted perfect buttonholes and thought I would try the new machine. No such luck.

Typed in a question on google and hey presto up came your site. Heaven sent, thank you again. Have now completed the perfect buttonholes.

Terrific! I am so glad your buttonholes worked out. It is so fun to figure out the different parts of our machines.

Thanks for the instructions. I lost my manual and needed a quick buttonhole. This did the trick. I have since found the manual, but enjoy learning from others best.

Thank you,
I also misplace my manual. Your advice was helpful with my 7061NX sewing machine. When I find my manual, I plan on scanning it so I can locate the info on my computer.
