I have the opportunity to purchase this model machine for less than half retail price. Closeout, last one, brand new in sealed carton.
I already have the DC 2011 and would like an upgrade. What is anyone's thoughts?

Diamonds fro me, did they tell you this is an older model, even though it is new still in the box. This was my second Janome machine and when I decided to up grade I sold it to my daughter about 13 years ago. She doesn't use it too often as she has 8 kids and no time. But it still runs like a champ. I have a 11000SE now and for everyday sewing.... I actually like the way it sews as well if not better then the 11000SE. Don't get me wrong I love my SE! But the 9700 is a great machine to start on and should give you years and years of wonderful service. There a some things on the newer models that are nice in the embroidery side... easier and bigger hoops meaning bigger designs you can stitch, but what a great little machine.... Happy sewing. I love the Janome brand and I am sure you will as well.

Just make sure you are buying from a dealer.

Thanks for the responses. I do appreciate your thoughts. I think the MC9700 will be fun to sew/embroidery on. I have been pleased with the DC2011, just wanted a bit more. Just getting back into sewing and enjoying it. Happy sewing to all.

The 9700 was a great entry level embroidery machine. The only negative would be the sandisk instead of USB.
