I have an MC 5000 and a friend is wanting to sell her 7000, I don't know how to evaluate the difference or know if it is a real upgrade. Any suggestions?

Is you MC5000 an embroidery machine? How old is it. The MC7000 is about 20 year old technology but was a good machine; but is sewing machine only. If yours is newer and embroidery, it is definitely superior.

Mine has the alphabet that you can stitch, but I wouldn't say it is an embroidery machine. Mine is older than the 7000 though.

The 5000 is an embroidery machine. In fact if you have the customizer 2000 program you can download internet designs in the sew format and that fit the hoop sizes you have.. I bought the machine because it had a larger area for embroidery than the 8000. My 5000 died 2 years ago but I enjoyed it because it introduced me to embroidery and the internet together. Hope this helps. Be sure you have the design box and the blank card that come with the 2000 software.

I evidently don't have the customizer program & had no idea it could interact with the internet! I also have no hoops for it. My instruction book doesn't even refer to the internet or hoops. Would love to get instructions & program doe anyone know where therse might be available?

People watch. The older embroidery machines and I mean those before the MC10000 are very difficult to access designs and get them useful on the MC9000 and below (MC9700 is the 10000 replacement so is exempt). If you don't have the box that the blank card fits in you cannot get a design to the machine and then only one at a time. You would be wise to save your money and buy something a little more computer savvy. Don't get me wrong they are all very good machines but rather limited in technology.
