Hello everyone, I am about to purchase an embroidery machine for the first time. I went to my dealer this week and they think I " dont want " a 300e beacuse of the memory... They dont have one in stock but they do have the 350 e that they do think I "need". I love these guys I have bought two other Janomes from them so I trust them but all I really want to do is have fonts and monagraming available. What do you all think... Thanks so much!

The 300E was the first one to come out and it only took the ATA PC card then the 350E came out and that introduced the thread cutter and the option of using a USB drive to transfer designs from the computer to your machine. I had the 300E before trading it in for the 11,000 about 4 years (since then I traded in my 11,000 for the 12,000)I loved the 300E but it was limited to a 5x7 hoop just like the 350E. Depending what they want to charge you for the machine the 350E would be the better choice. I know you love your dealer and I do mine, but shop around to get prices on the 350 and see if his quote matches those. The 350e is on QVC as well many other internet dealers for about $1,400 so as the expression goes let you fingers do the walking. let us know what you decide.

Good luck,

MOM

I think that your dealer is giving you very good advice. The 300E is very old technology as far as embroidery machines go. The 350E is approaching that as anything that was produced 5 or more years ago is quite out of date. The PC Cards are available is very few stores and you will probably need to get them on line and even USB's that are 2 GB and less are getting there.

After saying that, both machines do excellent embroidery. It depends on how much you are willing to spend and what computer technology you want in your machine.

You are right. From what I can tell, the 350e is better. Question: Do you think Janome will be coming out with something to replace the 350e soon? I am also thinking of purchasing a 350e, but if there is a newer version... I'd like to wait.

I have the 350E. I purchased it in February. If its a choice for you between the 300 and the 350, I would definitely go with the 350. It has the automatic thread cutter, which is a MUST HAVE for me. And, it uses USB sticks in addition to memory cards. There is also an external hard drive available, and it can be used with the new software upgrade to the 350E. So, if you have designs on CD, you don't need to use a PC or laptop to transfer the designs to the USB, and then to the machine. I like its ease of use, and the stitching is perfect. I've sewn on all sorts of fabrics and have only had to adjust my tension twice. I even use a thread stand, so that I can take advantage of the cost savings associated with buying large spools. My dealer told me that the "old fashioned" thread stands wouldn't work. But, there is no difference in my stitching.

I am sorry, though, that I didn't wait until I could have afforded a sewing/embroidery machine. I just don't have enough room to switch between two machines.

And, I have one problem that my dealer hasn't been able to resolve. My LED screen keeps fading, and I have to reset it while I'm sewing. A new screen was put in, under warranty. While it is a little better, it still has the fading issue. I haven't read of any other complaints online, but I can't believe I am the only one with this problem.

For me, buying the machine from a dealer was important. If I would have ordered online, I wouldn't have had a local dealership to honor the warranty issues. And, I have the opportunity, for the first year, of trading in my machine for full purchase price...if I upgrade to another Janome.

So, for what it's worth, that's my 2 cents.

Definitely go with the 350E if you can. The machine is still current, but who knows what tomorrow brings. It is a very good machine and does very nice embroidery. I don't have the machine but a very good friend does and she loves it. She also has the MC8000 and MC9000 and wanted to update her technology so opted for the embroidery only machine as she sews and embroiders at the same time. The 350E also allows for the use of the USB but still has a memory size limit to about 2GB so try to stay within that size. When you see the USB's that small in a store buy a few as they seem to be getting bigger and the little ones dropped out of circulation.

Hi-
I am also looking into getting the 350E or the 300. I am leaning toward the 350E because of the USB port.
There are so many machines out there. It just takes time to do the homework first.

The 300E is a discontinued machine. I know a few dealers do have them available, but the 350 is a better choice.

Karen,
I have a Janome 350E and love it. However I was just looking at it, on the Janome site, and Janome has it listed as retired! I'm editing this because I emailed Janome and they explained that it wasn't really retired although their website says retired doesn't mean that machine is. It's just an unfortunate placement of the word retired.

Moosie-
I thought that the 350E was going to retire soon. It would be great to see a newer version with more bells and whistles on it!
