Hi All,
I'm having trouble with my 11 month old Horizon ... it does not go over seams very well and will actually chew up certain fabrics. I've brought it to 3 different dealers with samples of what it's doing, to no avail. Is anyone else having these problems? I'm not a quilter, so I'm not using the 1/4 foot. This is being used for clothing alterations, using the A and C foots most of the time. Any suggestions?

Just switch to your dual feed foot. That should take care of your thicker fabrics. It is like attaching a walking foot.

I have used it ... it's great. But, what about the zigzag stitches? Doing alterations, I have to nicely finish raw edges ... have to push the item under the foot to get over the seams.

You can use your Dual feed foot for all of your stitches as long as you do not use your single hole plate setting.

Did any of the dealers check to see if the feed dogs on the front are working with the ones at the back. Many of the Horizon 7700's had the back feed dogs off a wee bit and that is a cause of some of these feeding problems. If you can bear to take the machine in again do that and ask if this is possibly the problem with your machine. If you've been to 3 dealers, I suggest you go back to the one that you trust the most.

I'm bringing the machine back to my favorite dealer tomorrow. I will show him what the machine is doing with different kinds of materials and stitches/feet. Also called Janome who said the dealer has to be the one to contact them or send the machine back if they cant' figure it out themselves. I hope the dealer finally is convinced there is a problem because this is a terrible waste of money if I can't get it fixed. It's already had the A board and 2 needle plates replaced.

Problem solved! The feed dog had a vital piece broken off. Missed by 4 people, caught by a new pair of eyes!
