I was introduced to the 12000 on the weekend and it was love at first sight. The price is $7999. and the dealer also includes a hard cover wheeled tote which holds, the machine, hoops, ext. table etc. In other words everything. Is this a good price?
I would trade in my 10001. Won't get much but no point in having it cluttering up my sewing room. My question is, I have the reader box which gets plugged into the machine and will convert and read the memory cards in the SEW format. I also have the cloth setter which I have never used. Should I chuck these into the trade-in package or sell on Ebay? I have never used Ebay so don't know if it is worth the effort.

Hi, I can't comment on the price, but I would keep your old machine for a while. You won't get much for the trade-in. Instead, I would list it on Kijiji.ca or Ebay and sell it yourself. I'd wait until I knew for certain there was nothing from it that I wanted to keep first. Don't rush into getting rid of it. I'd try Kijiji first, as its local and there is no shipping involved, which makes it simpler. If you can't sell it that way, then try Ebay, you shouldn't have any trouble selling it. I can't find the 10001 model, what's it like?

It is a "retired" model. I don't understand why they retired this one and kept the 9700 as the 10001 has more bells and whistles. You can get the specs by going to the top of this page, click on machines, click on retired and scroll down until you hit the 10001 (not to be confused with the 10000).
Thanks for the info. on Kijiji.ca. I shall give it some serious thought. I am sure you will understand if I do not want to discuss the merits of my 10001 over this open forum. It is not appropriate to use it (or appear to use it) as a selling tool. If you have further questions or suggestions send me a private message.
Cheers

I guess you end up paying more to get the same features or even less sometimes. My husband complained about this when he bought his stereo mixer or reciever a few years ago. The older models had more features and you had to pay more to get them in the newer ones. You'd think it would be the other way around, more bells and whistles for less money. That's the way it used to be anyway. He managed to find an older model with the features he wanted, it was being discontinued.
Back to sewing machines, I was looking at the 4120, but when they did the demo it jammed up. I wasn't impressed. I went back later and had a look at the Horizon but decided to wait. Now we have to build a wheelchair ramp, and I just can't afford it. I'll have to wait a few more years. I wanted to get an embroidery machine too but with all these unexpected expenses, its not even a consideration now.

PS. I can understand why you would love the new 1200. The Horizon was pretty impressive, the 1200 wasn't even out yet when I looked at the Horizon. $8000 eh? Well now I know its not going on my list, LOL!

Please someone check my pulse, my eyes, my disbelief, do I really read Jacquie has been smitten by the 12000, no I must have misread.
Quick someone pop around to see her, I think she's been kidnapped and an imposter is posting in her name. Jacquie would never part with her beloved 100001. Not even for a walk in wine cooler.
Go for it gal, but hang on the 100001 just in case! besides it never hurts to have 2 machines, hey you could do the embroidery library new Bird series now full size! now that alone must be worth it, I have the Snowy egret, the blue heron and the flamingo, I believe they are doing one a month. Just waiting to see which of Audubons birds they do in April.

Hi Maggie, you smart alec you!! I have been buying the Audobon series from Emblibrary. I think they are stunning, a lot like tapestry. I did not realize that they were releasing one a month, I had the idea from somewhere, that there were only going to be four of them. I have them in the B hoop size but no problem as I can re-size in Embird. I can hardly wait to start on the really big hoop. Only problem is that I will have to grow a much bigger chest to support the big designs on shirts etc. (most unlikely).
I haven't actually bought the 12K yet and have until the 23rd to decide. I would still like some feedback about the price to see if I should shop around a bit more. I will not keep the 10001 as I will not really have room for it and once I get the 12000, I doubt if I would use it. I have a geriatric Bernina Record which sews superbly if I need an emergency machine. I have put a couple of ads in local listings so maybe I will get a nibble. If not, I will just trade it in.

I don't know if you can get it, but the March incentive for the 12K is a free laptop.

LOL, oh Jacquiee, I could just picture you debating the pros and cons sipping a glss of wine and looking at the brochure, then 'should I, could I, will I?' then going to visit your faithful MC 10001 and feeling a slight pang of remorse for what you are thinking.
I know in the USA the machine is listed at 11,999 us dollars, but dealers have given 'deals' bringing the price down, so your dealers price equates in value, to the best deal I've read receid in the USA. So I would grab it if I were in the market to buy one, which I'm not.
Emb library is according to their write up, doing monthly design based on Audobons birds, and has said 2012 is going to be a ''wild year'' so I'm hoping that means a dsign a month.
I was kicking myself hard in 2010 as I had been asked if I'd care to see a 'spcial book of prints' I declined. I'd engraved some glassware for Christian Fermor Hesketh and we'd sat nattering in the garden when she made the offer, I never took it up. the book Then some 15 years after the invite, I read the Hesketh estate was auctioning of it's original first edition of Audubons american birds. 435 hand coloured engravings life size, and I never took Christian up on her offer! Just how stupid an oversight was that. The chance to see at first hand the 40x27 inch pages to allow the printing of the life size plates. So I'll console myself with the Emb Library versions instead.

That "free laptop" is an incentive IF you buy the 12000 at retail, which, by the way, is $11,999. As for the price, $7999 seems impossible (dealers were not supposed to sell it for less than $9000 if even that low!). Is it really new or is it perhaps a class machine-one that was used by Janome to certify dealers?

Hi Jacquie,
I think you are getting a great deal. That roller case is $300 and I have to buy it but I did get other toys when I purchased my 12000. As for the extra stuff, if you trade it you are rid of it. If you try eBay, it may or may not sell quickly. That decision, only you can make. Your would probably make a few bucks on selling it privately but it may take some time. If you decide to list the machine on eBay, put all the extras with it and asks a few dollars more - let the bidders decide and then you can decide if you want to go with the prices offered.
Enjoy that machine.

Oh, just an added bonus. This time Canadians got a good price on this wonderful MC12000. I don't know what lucky star we live under but I for one am glad. Our machines aren't listed at what the folks in the USA are saying on this forum. My friend got her 12000 for under $6500 and the free machine that was in the first promotional package too. Now that was a very sweet deal as I think some others got the same deal as well.

I am going to pick up the new member of the family next
Wednesday. Just a couple of questions - is there a built in basting stitch (for designs) on it and am I correct in assuming that I will have to use a USB stick instead of the ATA card? Pity, the cards are so stable.
Well, must be off to finish sewing some underpants. Nothing like an abundant supply of knickers!!

Yes Jacquie there is a built in basting stitch. Yes you may use a USB or the machine comes with a program called Horizon Link which is kind of like a customizing program in which you may connect your lap top or computer if you wish to the machine or you can send the designs from the Horizon Link program to a USB and then the USB to the machine. Maybe you can sell the ATA cards they are in dire need for them on EBAY. You are going to love the 12,000.

(Ok got me track shoes on, metal brolly to protect me head for when she reads me response, me walking stick and me emergency kit.)
Hi Jacquie, thankfully I dont require an abundant supply of knickers yet! But I suppose it will come to a point when I'll need them as well! I believe it is an aging problem for some.
Before abandoning your compact flash cards you can try your reader writer plugged into the 12000 to see if can read the cardAs you say its more stable system.
Right time to take cover,
love mags, who's not really hiding under the counter top.

Thanks for the tip, I will check that out when I pick up the new addition. I am definitely keeping all my cards. They have all my designs on them. I have them on my PC, cards and an external hard drive. Not taking any chances.
I like to have lots of knickers just for the sake of having pretty underwear. No 'prostate' problems yet (tee hee) despite my advanced years.
Now if someone can tell me if there is a built-in basting stitch I would be very grateful.

Yes Jacquie there is a built basting stitch. There are 2 selections . One where you can baste the fabric to your hoop and one that will baste outside of the design. also there is one that does not sew and just goes around the perimiter to outline but not baste.

Hi all,
Just for you information...Sew Vac Central in Crawfordsville, Indiana is going out of business forever and when I was there today he had two 12000s left and he is letting them go for $5999! No trade-ins since going out of business. His phone number for the store is 765-362-7360. Not sure how much it would cost to ship if he'd do that. Also, then you have to check with another dealer to see if they will honor doing any servicing. But I found one within an hour and a half of me who will do my one year free service and cleaning as long as I have the receipt. I bought the 12000 back at Thanksgiving last year not realizing he was going out of business. It was very sudden and very sad!
He also did have a couple of the Horizon 7700s selling at $1499. He may sell them quickly though.
He had lots of other machines all about half off the MSRP.

I picked up my 12000 today. I will have to wait until tomorrow to get it out of the trunk of the car and into the house. It is a big mother of a box!! Once it is in the house, I can take the stuff out of the box and carry it upstairs. Then I shall brew copious amounts of tea and read the manual. Oh I am so excited. My excitement is overcoming my twinges of guilt of trading in my faithful 10001. When I checked the paperwork, I noticed that I had bought it in 2001. Never a problem and only had it serviced once. Hope the new one is as problem free.

Jacquie,
Go to your car, open the box and read the damn manual tonight. You'll be crazy before tomorrow if you don't. OR, open it on line and go to the good stuff - the embroidery later in the book. You know how to sew so that stuff isn't all that much different - mostly more stitches and that the icons get moved about and may look different in those 11 years.
You are going to love the machine. It will take some getting used to as the hoops are bigger and will be a bit intimidating at first, because you will still like the designs that you have been using for the last while.
The box is big but it is manageable, but if you can get another to help you lift it that would be best.
Enjoy.
