Hi there, looking for a good mid level machine all purpose and am trying to research the various models. Seems like the 525S gets good reviews and is recommended but my local store is trying to sell me the SUV 1122. Are these machines comparable with the same features, quality of construction etc. Also, what is a reasonable price to pay for each of these machines? Can't seem to find too much on the SUV1122 except from the Janome website. Seems like the 1122 has fewer features based on this. Any advice is welcome. Thanks, Darrin

Hi Darrin,

What machines does our store have in stock? If they are pushing the SUV1122, they probably have it and maybe not the other. Ask them why one is suggested over the other. Perhaps another sales person would have a different idea. Also, if I were you, I'd check with another dealer to see what the prices are. What do you want your machine to do? I would say a mid-level machine would cost about $800 in Canada. There are less expensive and much more expensive, but the ones about $800 some extras and have a few bells and whistles - a new model the QDC3160 even has a thread cutter and it was selling for $5-600 when I was in Arizona last month. It's probably more here when they get them.

Thanks Cheryl, The store that is trying to sell me the SUV1122 does not have the 525S in stock. They tell me it is a discontinued model and that it has been replaced by the 1122. They tell me the 1122 has everything the 525 has and more. Comparing the spec sheets on the Janome website it doesn't appear that this is the case to me but I really don't know much about it. I can get the 525 for $350 (tax in, sale price) and the 1122 for $399 (tax in, sale price). I understand that the 1122 is supposedly around $800 MSRP and have no idea what the 525S would typically retail for. Based on this, any further advice would be welcome. Thanks in advance. Darrin

Hi Darrin,

I cannot even find the SUV1122 on this site to look at it. The 525S is discontinued but I don't think it was long ago. You may find that if you have some problems parts may be hard to get to repair it. The MSRP prices really chock me as I don't know if anyone pays that much for their machines. I guess we want to think we are really get some deals, but I'd rather a truthful realistic price be placed on merchandise on the sales floor. Perhaps you should look at another model and see what the sales person comes up with. If the machine is a Janome you should have a good product to sew with. I haven't been disappointed and I purchased for all my 3 daughters. The disappointment was in 2 purchases, one was my stupidity in buying to basic and the other in Australia didn't buy a top load bobbin so exchanged it the next day. I've been with Janome now for over 25 years and don't regret the switch from Singer and Phaff one little bit.

Hi Cheryl I found the SUV1122 on the www.janome.ca website under the products/all machines tab. Also found the specs on both of these machines at
http://www.findlaysvacsew.com/...ines/janome/standard/

Of course there is no pricing information on either of these site. The prices I have found may be a case of artificially inflated MSRPs to make the "sale" price seem like a better deal than it really is.

Cheers, Darrin

Hello, I live in the Vancouver area and would like to buy a Janome SUV 1122 and am having a hard time finding someone who sells that model locally. Would you mind telling me where you bought the one for your daughter? And is she happy with her machine?

Thanks so much!
Sincerely, Jblackmore
