Hi there,

I am considering upgrading my Janome 634D for which I have had for about 8-9 years. It goes extremely well, but I would like to upgrade if I can.

I have looked at the Compulock 888 ($400 NZ), but have been told not to touch these as they have had too many problems - one dealer sold 10 and 7 were returned and he advised me to stay well clear - but I really like the look of these machines and was wondering how others have found these machines.

The other option suggested to me was to invest in the CoverPro and keep my 634D.

Any ideas, recommendations, experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Warm Regards,

Bron.

Hi Bron,

If your serger is working great - keep it and get the Cover Pro as it will do the things you like on your knit clothing and it does wonderful hemming top stitching. If you talked to a dealer and he said that the machine you are interested in is trouble, I'd stay away from it as he/she would know better than anyone what the problems are. If you really think that you must have a new serger take a look at the 1200D as it looks like a wonderful machine and it is NEW just a couple months ago to the Janome Line. KEEP the old one though as you can keep a neutral color on one and use the other for all the color changes when sewing your garments. I try to keep white on my 634 and use the fancier one (Husky Lock 934) for the everyday stuff where I change colors. I'm thinking about the 1200D but 3 sergers may be a little over the top even for the machine collector in me.

I agree with CherylAnn... keep the 643, it is a classic serger and workhorse. If you wanted to stay within the Janome line then I would also recommend the 1200D because it has coverstitch capacity, or you can get CoverPro 1000 in addition to the 634 so you have coverstitch capacity. My second choice would be a Juki MO735. It is almost identical to Bernina 1300.
