This thread has been idle for a long time. What are you all making this year? I have been sewing and embroidering on leather. It has worked great on lighter leather. I used an outline design of a bear and made a leather pillow with piping and a zipper. Turned out great!!

A model train track sounds like a real challenge. But fun!! For a grandchild?? What pattern do you use for your fleece jackets and where do you buy the fleece? If It is online I will check it out.

I buy from a British site here in England, and the patterns I tend draft for myself, but having said that I found a plain quick and easy pattern in this quarters issue of Ottobre. A Finnish pattern book similar to Burda. ottobre link Their models have REAL bodies, not sticks for legs, no hips, waist, busts, but are normal and chunky like me.

Ha, quite forgot, I did make a backpack out of flo pink ripstock for an 8 year old, padded so she could carry her new Disney mini laptop, in its own padded cover also in flo pink ripstock. A chalk bag for her climbing wall activity and a few other bits n bobs. Digitised some machine embroidery doileys and gave them as birthday gifts. showed my 5 year old grandson how to cast plaster rocks and paint them, create miniture trees from dried seed heads. Worked on a half a dozen designs for my embroidery machine and played with a new version of a program. Oh and was taken out by illness for 8 weeks, so I was a wee bit busier than I thought.
This is where I got the fleece, British fabric wholesaler I ordered a pile of fleece over 2 years ago to make bound cot blankets, and liked it so much ordered piles more for myself.
For Polartec etc I order direct fom a mill, its in the USA I think it, or might be Canada. Its the original Polartec fabric, its not cheap and cheerful like the stuff I buy from Hillside here in UK, but for making what is essentially nothing more than a cardigan the fashion fleece is fine. However when my sons go ice climbing, outdoor pursuits they want the thermal properties of the real polartec power shield, polartec windbloc and polar tec windpro so I order those from this site
polartec fabrics by the cut yard.

I have just finished quilted Christmas Placemats and used the Accufeed Open Toe foot to monogram Merry Christmas with Gold rayon thread.I did this on three layers(cotton fabric, batting and backing fabric) and folks, my machine performed a beautiful monogram ,even with all those layers. It did not hiccup one bit either! I just wish that Janome had come up with 9mm stitch width with the 6600P. Maybe one day,if Janome comes up with a lower priced machine with a larger stitch width, I just MAY trade in my trusty 6600,but it had better be worth it.

The new machine has a 9mm width. I am surprised that when they came out with the Horizon they did not include that. I now have the Horizon and the 11,000 so I think it will be a while before I decide to purchase another, but you are right Mandy a 9mm would have been nice.

A wider stitch width for the decorative stitches would have been nice especially for embellishing fabric to use in making purses and handbags. I will sometimes go to the Babylock and Bernina websites for project ideas and do what I can with what I already have on my machine or serger.Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't look as greatl as the project pictures look on the site

What I usually do is go to my digitizing program and there are so many motifs on the program and stamps that we can lengthen and enlarge and I know we do need to put in our embroidery hoops, but is does help a lot with embelishing. I must say though the Horizon and the 11,000 have broght me to a whole new world in my sewing venture.
I can imagine what those that can afford the new machine will be able to do.
I do plan to get the upgrade for my digitizer so that will help with all of the changes in the program I know that will keep me entertained for a while.

I really, really would like to get an embroidery machine.I just would like to have something that will stitch designs larger than a 5x7 area because I would like to incorporate embroidery into my quilting and I like large designs. But my budget only allows for the 300E or the 350E so I have to just settle for the smaller stitching area for right now.
You great ladies have gotten my interest piqued on digitizing big time, especially since I saw some of Digimad's videos on You Tube, very very enticing!

I am working on a Square in a Square quilt designed by Jodi Barrows called "The Pony Express Sampler". There are 5 of us building this quilt, actually one is finished her top so that makes 4 now. It is very interesting and fun to work with other ladies doing what we love most - sewing. I am also have created 3 more UFO's in quilts for 3 babies that will need them come winter. Those are tumbling blocks that will cause their parents to have crossed eyes. I'm having fun.

The Pony Express is really cute. If you go to:
http://squarequilting.com/index182.htm#
you can see how Jodi is doing the quilt. She has the whole set up done on video but there is a nice picture.
What has amazed me is that the 5 of us making it here in Saskatoon is how different each of ours is. There is a fair bit of "scrappy" to it and we all see colour a bit differently. I'll post a picture on Digimad's Group when I'm finished. I don't think there is a way I can share it on the Janome site.

I hope one day Janome will overhaul the forum so we can each each others work, but I think we have had this very discussion on this forum before so I have no need in being redundant on the subject.
However being able to see a picture that describes a forum member's problem with their machine maybe helpful for others to assist that member with the issue.......Just an idea from the"peanut gallery".

Dig has some videos on You Tube that demonstrates digitizing and she has a knack for making a complicated art not seem so difficult. If I am not mistaken,Dig has a background in education and that experience has really served her well. You can tell she was a teacher and a good one at that.

I've popped a message into your private mailbox. My group is unlisted and invitation only. The group is for those folks who want to learn to digitise and need to be able to feel safe to ask questions without fear of being belittled or ignored. If you subscribe to Trevor Conquergoods webinars and saw the two challenge ones, quite a few of my group entered both. I'm very proud of how far some of them have progressed given the relatively short time they've been digitising. I nag, scold, give praise when deserved offer suggestions, but I never rubbish a design. I was a raw beginner once, and unlike professional digitisers I had more time to experiment and discover things and I pass those along. I dont claim to know everything, no one does, and I learn so much from my group members, but it is place where support, help, and encouragement is offered. You wont be spoon fed, I'm a retired professional teacher and Crafts instructor, so I expect members to take what is on offer and build on it, not wait for me to say follow exactly what I do and stick to it.

I have found that the best educators do not spoon feed their students.
