I'm planning on giving my daughter my 9000. I have the 350E and that already does embroidery.

What computerized sewing machine do those of you who sew construction recommend? I'm looking for a great stitch-out and seam construction. On my 9000, I find the fabric sometimes shifts, even when I baste.

Thanks,
Diane

Hi Diane,

The Horizon 7700 is a wonderful machine and has the even feed feature. It sews beautifully, has 250 utility and decorative stitches, has a large harp (throat) space - 11". There are others made by Janome that are less expensive but I'm glad that this one is part of my sewing room.

Cheryl, Just curious. Is there a difference in seam construction quality between the 7700 and the 12000? I know you have both.

I found that what makes the biggest impact of a professional looking seam, no matter which machine you use, is to make sure that your bobbin is not filled/wound at top speed. If using polyester thread, high speeds will stretch the thread and when the seam is stitched, the thread relaxes. This is one of the major causes of puckered seams which make a garment look "home-made" and tacky. Cotton does not do this but it does not seem to be used much anymore.

I've read very negative reviews about the 7700 sewing buttonholes. Any experience with that?
