Hi. I have an older Janome - My Excel 15S - and I switched from straight stitch to zig zag and it won't go back. In fact, it will do any stitch but straight stitch! I've read somewhere about using a hair dryer to loosen the gears and wondered if anyone has done this.

Can I use a very tight zig zag stitch for awhile in regular sewing until I figure this out?

Thanks.

Try to make your zig zag width as close to 0 (straight stitch) as possible then you would have only a very wobbly line and it would almost be straight. It wouldn't affect the seams much that way. Your zig zag shouldn't be to close together or you will have to many stitches in your seam allowance.

I'm assuming that you did shut your machine off and turn it on again. However, you may need to take it in to be serviced. Also take off the throat plate and clean the bobbin area and put one drop of oil on that little wick under the bobbin case. I'm assuming your machine is a top load bobbin.

When was it last serviced, part of the servicing is to replenish the felt pad oil resorvoirs, applying the right lubricants and deep cleaning. I'd take it in for a repair and service as you could be creating a bigger problem by using it.
